Introducing Progress Funds

How to plant the seed – endow your community!
The Community Progress Initiative is all about community and economic development in southern Wood County and Rome.  To assist local residents in creating their own future, an endowment fund has been created for each of our seven local communities: Nekoosa Area, Pittsville Area, Port Edwards, Rome, Rudolph, Vesper Area, and Wisconsin Rapids Area.

What is a Progress Fund?
The purpose of each fund is to support unique community development opportunities as identified by the residents of that area.  Local citizens, serving on Progress Fund committees, are responsible for fundraising, setting grant guidelines, accepting grant applications, and making grants to improve their own community.

Each fund is an endowment fund.  All donations are combined into a permanent account and serve as the principal balance.  The principal is never spent; it’s endowed and available for growth forever.  A portion of the earnings is then distributed annually in the form of grants.

Who may apply for a grant?
Grant requests may be submitted by groups or local nonprofits for community improvement projects or programs.   How are grant distributions determined?  Your local Progress Fund committee will review applications and determine grant distributions.  For complete details, see the application form for your community.
