About Us

Richard S. and Mary Virginia Brazeau had a dream to provide something of a lasting nature for the good of the South Wood County area. This legacy could only be realized through the creation of a permanent endowment. Mr. Brazeau did not live to see his dream realized. However, his wife was instrumental in establishing the Community Foundation of Greater South Wood County (CF) in July of 1994. She did this by making a $1 million matching funds challenge, and the Foundation began.

Since its start in 1994, the CF has been one of the fastest growing community foundations in the state of Wisconsin. Within the Foundation are more than 240 individual funds ranging in value from $200 to over $4 million. Big or small, they all serve the common purpose of making a lasting difference in the quality of life in the South Wood County area.

Mary Virginia Brazeau's vision and extraordinary support helped establish the Community Foundation in 1994.

The essence of what we do is simple: we manage your investment in our community. Together with donors, we build permanent funds that support a variety of local needs through grants to nonprofit organizations involved in youth development, health and human services, education, arts and culture, historic preservation, community development and recreation. In addition we manage non-profit agency endowments, and we work with other funding sources to maximize charitable giving.

During 2006-2007, we disbursed more than $2.0 million in grant dollars to area nonprofits and to individuals seeking scholarships.

Foundation Publications help tell our story.
