Rapids areas The Teen Leadership program of Greater South Wood County is designed to develop leadership skills through a hands-on learning experience for 25 local high school sophomores. Students meet once a month during the school year, and using principles from the book "Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens" their learning is centered on many areas of community involvement -- including interactive sessions, shadowing community leaders, and getting involved in community projects. Founded in 2006-07 with support from the Ford Foundation, two groups of local residents graduated from Advanced Leadership Institute (ALI) in 2007 and 2008 with training in adaptive skills for leading change, the concepts of trusteeship of a community, and tools for managing conflict constructively.
Graduates are now working on a number of community projects such as: - Municipal collaboration - Speak Your Peace civility project - Green eco-living - Recreation trails - Community environment - Downtown development - Addressing the 'gap' in student skill sets when seeking post-secondary education - Technology delivery
